Malibu’s surfside dining scene is nothing short of spectacular, offering an array of experiences that blend gourmet cuisine with breathtaking views of the Pacific. Geoffrey’s Malibu is a quintessential spot for those seeking international California cuisine and romantic Mediterranean ambiance. Located right on the water, this restaurant is perfect for a relaxing weekday lunch or a candlelit dinner by the fire pits – and weekend brunch is especially popular.

For sushi lovers (who aren’t afraid of a sizable check), Nobu Malibu is a must-visit. Renowned for Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s transformative impact on the sushi scene, the restaurant offers signature dishes like miso black cod and yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno – but be sure to ask about daily specials.

A great spot to bring out-of-town guests for a quintessential Malibu experience.

For the ultimate in atmosphere – great spot for day drinks with friends or a romantic date – try The Sunset Restaurant, located on a beautiful, off-the-beaten-path spot on Westward Beach. Pull up a front-row seat to an epic ocean sunset while enjoying a wide variety of craft cocktails and delicious dishes, including excellent fresh seafood.

Lastly, Carbon Beach Club Restaurant at the Malibu Beach Inn is perfect for a romantic evening out. Known for its sophisticated yet comforting dishes like steak frites and whole grilled branzino, this restaurant offers a serene dining experience with sweeping ocean views.

Casual Eats and Local Favorites

One of the most beloved casual dining spots in Malibu is Malibu Farm. Located at the end of the iconic Malibu Pier, this farm-to-table restaurant is celebrated for its commitment to organic and fresh ingredients. The menu is packed with healthy, flavorful dishes that perfectly capture the essence of Californian cuisine. The relaxed, beachside atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for a leisurely brunch or a sunset dinner. Plus, the views from the pier are simply unbeatable.

For seafood enthusiasts (and those who like eating with sand between their toes), The Reel Inn is a must-visit. This casual spot offers an array of seafood dishes ranging from fish and chips to clam chowder. Known for its friendly service and laid-back vibe, The Reel Inn has earned a loyal following among both locals and tourists – and is ideally located just across the PCH from Topanga Beach.

Another local favorite is Zinqué, a cozy French-inspired restaurant that offers a unique blend of casual and chic. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick coffee, a light lunch, or an elegant dinner, Zinqué has got you covered – customers rave about the delicious food, interesting drinks, and charming atmosphere.

Over at Malibu Country Mart, you’ll find a variety of excellent casual eateries surrounded by world-class shopping. We love John’s Garden for a quick sandwich or salad (picnic tables are thoughtfully provided outside), Taverna Tony for Greek delicacies in a fun atmosphere, Tra de Noi for truly exceptional pizza, and Marmalade Cafe for a make-everyone-happy breakfast or lunch.

This laid-back seafood shack is famous for its fish and chips, clam chowder, and fish tacos. With a cozy, casual vibe and a stunning view of the ocean, it’s a perfect spot for a relaxed meal with friends or family.

Another hidden gem is Country Kitchen, a humble burger joint known for its hearty breakfast burritos and diverse menu. With an inviting, divey atmosphere, this spot is perfect for groups and families looking to enjoy a casual meal. The outdoor seating adds to its charm, making it an ideal place to savor a laid-back breakfast or lunch under the Malibu sun.

For a more sophisticated yet still off-the-radar experience, Lucky’s Malibu offers a relaxed and cozy dining environment. Known for its steaks and seafood, Lucky’s combines high-quality dishes with an elegant atmosphere and top-notch service. The brunch (with bottomless mimosas) is especially good.

Location and Accessibility

Paradise Cove

Paradise Cove is situated along the world-famous Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California, on what is widely considered one of Southern California’s most spectacular beaches. The park is conveniently reachable from Santa Monica, Venice, Downtown, and the Valley, making it an attractive option for those seeking coastal living without the hassle of long commutes.

Proximity to major landmarks and attractions is one of Paradise Cove’s key highlights. Within a six-mile radius, residents can explore Escondido Falls, Point Dume State Beach and Natural Preserve, Zuma Beach, and El Matador State Beach – so there’s always something active to do, whether it’s hiking, beachcombing, or enjoying a leisurely wine tour through the mountains. You probably know Paradise Cove from TV and movies, as the location has been featured on the silver screen for decades.

Point Dume Club

Point Dume Club is nestled within one of Malibu’s most exclusive communities, offering a slightly different – but equally captivating – living experience. Situated near legendary Zuma Beach, Point Dume Club boasts quick access to a variety of local restaurants, shops, and top-rated schools – making the location a perfect blend of luxury and convenience. Like Paradise Cove, Point Dume Club is just a short drive away from Point Dume Village, Malibu Country Mart, Trancas Market, and the Malibu Lumberyard, where you’ll find phenomenal shops and restaurants with a community feel.

Community and Amenities

Paradise Cove

Paradise Cove is known for its charming, laid-back community vibe that attracts a diverse range of residents, from young families to retirees. The neighborhood exudes a welcoming, neighborly feel, with 79% of homes being owner-occupied.

When it comes to amenities, Paradise Cove offers a luxurious yet relaxed lifestyle. Residents enjoy direct access to spectacular Paradise Cove Beach, perfect for those who love sunbathing, surfing, or simply strolling along the shoreline. The Paradise Cove Beach Café, just steps away from the entrance to the park, is a local favorite, offering delicious meals with stunning ocean views. Additionally, the park features a large clubhouse, tennis and basketball courts, and a children’s playground, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Community events and gatherings are a staple in Paradise Cove, adding to the park’s vibrant social atmosphere. From casual beach bonfires to organized recreational activities, residents have numerous opportunities to connect and build lasting relationships. The community’s proximity to Point Dume Village, Trancas Country Market, and Malibu Country Market also means that shopping, dining, and entertainment options are just a short drive away.

Point Dume Club

Point Dume Club offers residents a relaxed, tranquil, and family-friendly atmosphere, making it a perfect retreat for those seeking a quieter lifestyle. The amenities at Point Dume Club are truly next-level: The park features a 24-hour gated entrance with guard, ensuring security and peace of mind. Residents can take advantage of the heated swimming pool, sauna, tennis court, basketball court, dog run, children’s playground, and recently-renovated, well-equipped clubhouse. The meticulously maintained grounds and facilities speak to the pride that residents take in their community.

Social events and community activities are integral to life at Point Dume Club. Whether a poolside gathering, a tennis match, or watching Santa’s annual parade through the park, there are plenty of ways for residents to engage and socialize. The park’s location also places it within walking distance to local beaches, Malibu Elementary, and Point Dume Village, further enhancing its appeal.

Property Features and Pricing

Paradise Cove

Paradise Cove offers a variety of mobile home styles, with many reflecting the offbeat charm and casual vibe of beachfront living.

The park itself is situated on the scenic bluffs of Malibu along the Pacific Coast Highway, and is divided into two main areas: The Upper Bowl (overlooking the bluffs), and the Lower Bowl, where homes tend to skew smaller and quirkier (in the best way). The community’s amenities are top-notch, featuring a large clubhouse overlooking the ocean, tennis and basketball courts, a children’s playground, and, of course, direct beach access.

When it comes to pricing, Paradise Cove stands out as one of Malibu’s more upscale mobile home parks, with prices currently ranging from around $1.2 million to nearly $5 million. Residents of Paradise Cove pay “space rent” to the park, an amount that varies from home to home but generally hovers between $1-2k per month.

Point Dume Club

Point Dume Club is known for spacious, beautifully-renovated manufactured homes crafted to maximize the stunning whitewater and rainbow sunset views.

The park was developed in 1970, and is located on the western tip of the Santa Monica Bay. The park offers something of a country club atmosphere, complete with a 24-hour gated entrance, heated swimming pool, spa, sauna, and more. Residents of Point Dume Club can exit the rear entrance and walk or golf cart directly onto Westward and Zuma Beaches, offering an unparalleled opportunity to experience Malibu’s natural beauty on a daily basis.

Pricing in Point Dume Club varies widely, with current listings ranging from around $775,000 to around $2,500,000. Residents of Point Dume Club pay space rent to the park, an amount that varies from home to home but generally is between $1k and $3k/month.

Prices in both parks are of course influenced by market changes and specific home features, but they still offer a far more affordable alternative to traditional oceanfront homes in Malibu. Mobile Homes Malibu was created to help you navigate this unique space, with an insider’s perspective and knowledge.

For Sale: Impeccably Restored & Modernized 1950 Westcraft Capistrano Trailer

1950 Westcraft Capistrano Calypso Trailer for sale luxury restoration

Available for sale: A 1950 Westcraft Capistrano Trailer named “Calypso” – one of only two in the world. This stunning work of functional art (picture it as a guest house or a pool house overlooking the ocean) is the product of 11 years of work by a team committed to transforming it from a slightly forlorn collector’s item into a move-in ready piece of art and history.

The restoration included the trailer’s return to spectacular, period-authentic style both interior and out by one of the most acclaimed restoration professionals in the country – but with high-end, luxury amenities that bring it into the modern age.

The goal was NOT to restore this trailer to the original mint condition, but to create an even more opulent antique style based on the original 1930’s Art Deco design, thereby adding many new elements to attain a much higher level of luxury and elegance than the original had.

In addition, many modern practical and luxury appliances were installed for truly comfortable living – but all of them are completely hidden in cabinets and behind curtains, so that when all cabinets are closed, the trailer looks and feels like an antique vintage specimen in absolute mint condition.

To achieve this double goal, almost all elements of the interior had to be meticulously designed from scratch and handcrafted in the shop, with the assistance of third party specialists working on the metal elements, such as water-jetting and bending aluminum, cutting and forming stainless steel, polishing and chroming, as well as high-quality painting, especially on the exterior.

-Owner Lucas Lackner

A sampling of the restomod amenities:

  • Enamel “bread loaf” exterior custom-painted in Art Deco style
  • Rare clerestory roof known as a “Pullman”
  • Full master bedroom
  • Full kitchen with period-specific appliances including mint-green Dixie Permaview stove and matching Norcold fridge/freezer
  • Sparkling bar/lounge
  • Living room with custom-made leather convertible sofa/bed and chairs
  • Jaw-dropping period bathroom with jade-green toilet, gimbaled vanity and oversize stainless steel shower enclosure.
  • Honey wooden floors and cognac woodwork
  • Custom Ben Ahadzedeh burgundy leatherwork
  • Polished aluminum propane tanks and valve system
  • Period lighting throughout
  • Hand-built furnishings, including a fold-up dining table that vanishes into a leather-lined cabinet that also conceals a flat-screen TV
  • Two highest-end sound systems
  • Two hidden flat-screen televisions
  • Authentic Deco lighting set to dimmers
  • Custom-fabricated grills, modern appliances, luxury faucets and fixtures
  • Contemporary water-heating, air-conditioning and heating systems

…And many more touches that make this beauty an absolute one-of-a-kind find for the most discerning of buyers.

For more information or to schedule a showing (virtual or in-person at the Fillmore, CA storage location), contact Lucas Lackner / muserink@gmail.com / 805-680-3759.

How To Make the Most of Your Side Yard

how to make your side yard a more functional space

With a smaller home it’s especially important to make use of every single available area – but side yards often turn into inefficient places to put…everything you don’t know where else to put.

Here’s how we transformed a side yard that was basically a garbage storage area into a super-useful space.

First, we added a slanted roof (for rain runoff) and closed up the walls to create a covered area. We then added shingles to the exterior of the roof so that it would match the roof of the rest of the house (and therefore look like an extension of the house from the front), reinforced the exterior gate with locks, and installed an interior gate to separate the part of the space that houses the motorcycle from the part where we keep our bikes and tools.

bike hooks hanging from ceiling

We also installed hooks to hang our bikes and scooters…

shelving for tool storage in side yard

Hung shelving for tools and cleaning supplies…

additional electrical outlets for power tools

Put in a couple of outlets for power tools and such…

antique wooden croquet set

And found a spot to store our croquet set when we’re not using it (which is always, as we have no idea how to play croquet).

We also painted the interior white with gray accents (Benjamin Moore Raccoon Fur) and power washed the floor. Knowing how much more efficient we made the space makes me wish we’d done it a looooong time ago. (Especially getting those bikes up and off the floor – such a space-saver.)
